Thailand could reopen to tourism as soon as July 1

Thai Tourism on Tuesday unveiled a campaign to welcome international tourists to the beautiful Southeast Asian country. The campaign is titled #OpenThailandSafely will welcome tourists from all over the world by July 1, 2021, and by then help potential international tourists get vaccinated.

In addition, the organizers also hope that Thai medical authorities will be able to vaccinate their frontline workers and vulnerable citizens by July 1. In addition, this date will also allow airlines and hotels enough time to receive tourists from abroad.

The World Health Organization has warned of the risk of countries easing restrictions too quickly. William Heinecke, chairman of Minor International PCL, which operates more than 500 hotels worldwide, is leading the petition in which he campaigns to reopen the borders by the third quarter of 2021.

This online petition received over 6,000 signatures in two days. “The current situation is untenable. The July 1 reopening would be a strategic opportunity for Thailand to show a leadership role among Asian countries and pave the way for a strong recovery of the Thai economy in 2022.”

Thailand, with strict blockade measures, has managed to contain Covid-19 infections and has reported about 84 deaths. But due to the blockade, the country suffered due to the absence of tourism, which is a major contributor to GDP. And after the successful reopening, the country will inspire other tourism-dependent countries that could gradually open up.
